Budinalkantha temple



    Budinalkantha temple lies around 7 kilometer north of Kathmandu Valley. The temple is situated at the elevation of 3,700 m. from sea level. The idol of Lord Budhanilkantha is 20 ft. in length and 12th ft. in width and covers 882 sq m, in area. Lord Budhanilkanta Narayan ( Lord Vishnu ) seen lying in sleeping position on the bed of Sesh Naga(serpent) as Lord Buddha and feet like that of lord Krishna, Himself an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
      The idol is seen holding bight (cake of holy ash) in one of his four hands this is unusual depiction as usual details in other idol shows lord Vishnu Holding lotus in his hand. According to the legend, the idol was found buried under the land when the then King Hari Data Sharma ordered to Gopal CHronicle (vamsavali). However, the idol had been made by the order of the then king Vishnugupta of Licchavi dynasty in the year 697 (circa) of Vikram era.
